555 field company royal engineers

About Me

I inherited a photo from my father (Ronald Francis Allen, then a corporal by the looks of it) from 1939 taken outside their HQ-- a commandered house by the looks of things-- at Havorford West in S Wales--he told us it was from the Royal Engineers 53rd Field Division. In the foto there are 8 other ranks, including RFA, and what looks like 4 important looking officers. Foto taken by JG Griffiths Havorfordwest and Milford Haven. I will try to scan it and upload it to the site. he told us the names once but these are forgotten.

He also told us he later went to Nothern Ireland to serve. And then to Rippon where he fell off a bridge they were practising building at night.

Next there was some bomb disposal, but that seems to be fairly well covered in the book.Unexploded bomb--so its the first half of the war II that is a bit vague at the moment.

i'll see if I can get the photos up into the site.  TERENCE FRANCIS ALLEN 18 JUNE 2012
